In the spirit of the city as teacher, Sharrisburg focuses on place-based writing that draws attention to urban change and renewal. Specifically, the Sharrisburg project functions to articulate individuals and groups involved in community action, outreach, innovation and change in urban contexts or that effect urban communities.

As the name suggests, this project places an emphasis on sharing, with the idea that social media can be the microphone that amplifies calls for the engagement of individuals and groups in designing better urban environments and experiences. Each contributor to Sharrisburg shares/links each post to a number of other sites he/she would not normally post to. Each post also poses a question in order to generate a conversation. The goal is to communicate about community design and thus build communities of progressive design ideas within urban places.
