Tina Mitchell

As part of family construction and property management businesses in Los Angeles and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, I developed an instinct for the functionality of form, a design method I refined as an essayist and research academic. Thus, my work maps a theoretical landscape contoured by science and the humanities and emerges in the physical landscape—utilitarian spaces and art objects that fit a niche and function organically. This mastery coupled with my breadth of work and research experience has inspired my exploration of philosophical and literal borderlands, the space between traditional and modern, urban and suburban, and interior and exterior. Through close study of this between-space, we can discover solutions that are rich and innovative and give way to designing new and more accommodating landscapes.
